Shanghai 2009 highlights - Zhujiazio

A shared lunch with colleagues on yet another bitterly cold day.  Bus trip off to Zhujiazio for lunch in a tiny little restaurant near Fangsheng Bridge which was, luckily, a little less touristy than its neighbours.  On a sunny day, kids throw goldfish off the bridge to free them (that's the tradition) - today, is far too cold for kids or goldfish.

Lunch was simple, and warm.  Water Bamboo in soy, pork and shredded bamboo, sticky braised soy beef

Vine wrapped pork belly started to slow us down - that first point in a meal when you're cold and hungry but the beer's kicking in, and the warmth means your toes are starting to wriggle again.  Besides, all that awaited outside the door was the cold trek back to the bus with no heating so we kept on.

Eggy rice, stir fried sprouts lightly accented with garlic, tofu strips in a green herb broth, shredded beef and chili and then dumplings smuggled in from next door (like we needed any more food, but my quest to eat dumplings at every meal could not be ignored).....

I can but imagine how pretty this must be in better weather - and how much more crowded!
